How did we begin?

The West Moonah Neighbourhood House commenced in 1985 when a group of interested people from West Moonah began to offer organised activities at the local school. After a few years, we found accommodation in an old draughty house, a few streets away from the school. By 1991, we were moved into a brand new house in Springfield Avenue.

West Moonah Neighbourhood House is a home away from home for many of our community members. We adopt an open door policy encouraging every member of any community to participate in our activities and utilise our facilities.

OUR VISION: A place to come together in unity to share, learn and grow

OUR MISSION: We create a friendly, caring and inclusive environment for our community to connect with each other, learn new things and find help when they need it.

What is a Neighbourhood House?

There are 35  Neighbourhood Houses within Tasmania, 33 of which are funded by the Department of Communities Tasmania (DCT) to work from a community development framework within their community. This is achieved by offering programs and courses of interest or identified needs to the community.

The funding provided by DCT is used to cover wages and on-cost expenses for operating the house. Neighbourhood Houses sign a service agreement with DCT to secure this funding and would be require to comply with obligation listed by the department. This includes, but is not limited to;

  • Development and implementation of a strategic plan- reviewed and reported annually
  • Annual Report with Outcomes Reporting

Who can access the Neighbourhood House?

The neighbourhood house is accessible to all members of the community.
